Introduction to Glass Fusing
Sun 19 January 2020, 9-4:30
Unleash the Artist within!
This full day workshop is loads of fun and you will make a test tile, a jewelry pendant (or a keychain), and a functional art piece.
The basic concepts of fusing glass will be explained and you will work with glass powders, frit and stringers with your test tile. The concept of “negative space” will become clear as you make your pendant, and the rest of the afternoon will be devoted to designing your “main event”. This is a 17cm x 17 cm dish, which will be fused and then slumped. All materials and necessary equipment will be provided, as well as morning and afternoon tea.
You must bring your own lunch – we have a microwave and a refrigerator available. Please wear comfortable, casual clothing and closed toe shoes. A drink bottle is handy in warmer weather.
No previous experience with glass is required.
Max class size is 8 (4 places still available)
NEW!! Introduction to Bead Making on the Minor Burner Torch!!!
This is a full day workshop introducing you to the magic of bead making! We will use a minor burner, which is fueled with an oxy/ propane surface mix torch.
After completing this workshop, you will be eligible for Open Studio on the torch.
Introduction to the Hot Shop: Beginning Glassblowing!
This workshop is a very intensive full day experience. We book 3 students/ session, and there are 2 of us instructing and demonstrating… an excellent student/teacher ratio!
The workshop introduces the beginner to the skills necessary for manipulating molten glass. After a studio tour and introduction of all tools and equipment, we will review safety in the studio. “Gathering” the glass from the furnace and various shaping techniques with the jacks is next. Technique is improved through practice exercises. Application of colour, working with blocks and a bubble tops it off. It’s serious, but it’s loads of fun!
We are offering this workshop on a series of Sundays, resuming April or May of 2020
Please contact me to book a place, once dates are definitely scheduled – it’s a rare opportunity, and a “bucket list” experience!
